Involvement with the wider community

As a socially aware and active group we want to be involved in the wider community as a whole in addition to anything individual members might do. This means that we would like to be near a substantial village or small town. We feel very strongly about connecting with and being of benefit to the local community as opposed to being remote and just ‘doing our own thing’.

Involvement could be voluntary through the local Transition Town group, local planning issues, helping organize festivals, etc. Partial or wholly commercial involvement could be running a farm shop and/or veg-box scheme, hiring out space, running courses, working with local schools to organise nature trails and forest schools, etc.

It will be essential to complement what others are doing in the local area rather than competing with them. For example, we would support the village hall for venues, utilse local B&B and holiday cottages for course participants and would not seek to compete with the village shop.
